V Festival cheers for 'wobbly' Amy

V Festival cheers for 'wobbly' Amy

Amy Winehouse turned in a wobbly performance at the V Festival - but escaped being booed for a second time. The troubled soul singer was barracked when she arrived late on stage at the event's leg in Weston Park, Staffordshire on Saturday night.

Her set at the festival's second site, at Hylands Park in Chelmsford, Essex, also started behind schedule but attracted cheers rather than jeers.

Winehouse made a jittery start, but had the crowd singing along by the time she closed with her version of The Zutons' song Valerie. She appeared to change the words of her hit Rehab to refer to her husband Blake Fielder-Civil's incarceration for trying to cover up an attack on a pub landlord.

The 24-year-old Grammy winner looked nervous, and her vocals were sometimes only partially audible, but the V crowd applauded loudly at the end of her curtailed set.

Music fans at the festival's Essex site basked in sunshine as they enjoyed a diverse line-up of rock, pop and urban acts today.

Weston Park suffered heavy downpours over the weekend, but Hylands Park almost entirely escaped the rain.

Earlier, Girls Aloud won over the main stage with their combination of perfect pop tunes and energetic dance routines. All dressed in black with gold accessories, they got the crowd joining in with their hits, including Love Machine and Call the Shots, as well as spirited covers of Walk This Way and Jump (For My Love).

On the 4Music stage, Scouting For Girls provoked a mass singalong with their summer-tinged indie pop. Their medley of Elvis Presley's Can't Help Falling In Love and their own hit Elvis Ain't Dead sent fans into a frenzy.

On Saturday night, the headliners at Chelmsford, Devon band Muse accompanied their operatic rock with a spectacular laser show. Their V appearance concluded a gruelling world tour, and now the group will return to the studio to begin the follow-up to 2006's Black Holes and Revelations album.

Christina Aguilera: Sexy Momma

Christina Aguilera: Sexy Momma

Suddenly the consummate family girl, Christina Aguilera was out to dinner last night with her husband Jordan Bratman. And as she moves further along in her pregnancy, she has revealed that her days of pushing the "sexy" envelope aren't necessarily over now that she's about to be a mommy.

The "Dirrty" singer says that she hopes to wear her crotchless leather chaps for years to come. She told press that the wardrobe from her racy "Dirrty" video is still in the cards for her as she grows older. "I was only 21, and possibly when I'm 60, if I can still fit into them. At the end of the day I can say I have a f***ing blast."

The 26-year-old mother-to-be says she's always been more interested in making a statement than appeasing the naysayers. "I definitely stirred the pot a bit but I had fun. If it's under the mark of respectability it's prudish, if it's over the mark, it's sl***y. That's really unfair, so I'm happy I've been able to express myself and be on both sides - people have loved it, hated it, been undecided, and been empowered by it."

Kingfisher shoots its swimsuit calendar in India

Kingfisher shoots its swimsuit calendar in India

Kingfisher 's annual swimsuit calendar, in its sixth edition, has become an integral part of the brand's tagline 'King of Good Times'. What was just a thought has now turned into an ideal branding platform and is also boosting industries like fashion and tourism.

Photographer Atul Kasbekar, who came up with the idea of the calendar six years back, knew that the only person who would bring to life his idea was UB group Chairman Vijay Mallya.

"I wouldn't have sold the idea to anyone if Vijay had turned it down," he admits.

Kasbekar believes that the calendar, which so far was primarily promoting the world of fashion, could be the perfect way to boost the Indian tourism sector. "The calendar could be used to promote places like the Andaman islands or even Goa," says Kasbekar, who, by his own admission, has seen quite a fair bit of the country.

For example, the calendar has been shot in the Kings' Museum of Goa that was recently opened for public.

This year's edition, which has been shot exclusively in India, features models like Deepti Gujral, Sheetal Menon and Monikangana Dutta, sporting brands like La Perla (swimwear from its India inspired line), Jimmy Choo (shoes), Roberto Cavalli (sunglasses), Watches of Switzerland (watches), and Christian Dior (accessories and sunglasses).

"It is always fun shooting for the calendar and it was extra special this time as it was India specific," Kasbekar says. With locales ranging from Ladakh, Andaman & Nicobar, Udaipur and Goa, the calendar is in sync with the brand's imagery.

"Earlier, it was a hassle to get permits from various tourism boards to shoot in India, thus the calendar was always shot abroad. But this time it was relatively easier, as people knew it could be an ideal way to promote tourism," Kasbekar adds.

According to Vijay Mallya, "Kingfisher has come to epitomise a lifestyle that encompasses some of the finest things in life and is synonymous with all that is premium." And the calendar is just a part of the whole brand. Only a select few in the 56 'Kingfisher countries' across the world will receive a copy of the calendar.

Kasbekar believes the calendar should be used by other brands too. Who knows, calendars may soon become the next big thing in the world of brand promotion.
